EVERYBODY
CALLS
YOU
RAIN

by Lindsey Eck

highway, storm clouds, sunset

The hurricane brought too much rain
So much lost and not much gained
Scattered shells and water stains
Nothing but a hand to lend
Just tangled trees and memories
Tossed by winds or lost at sea
Tide that brought you back to me again

Everybody calls you rain
And they don’t see a break in your weather
Everybody sees the rain
In your gray eyes that goes on forever
But the day’s so sunny and warm
As I’m lying here in your arms
Everybody calls you rain
But I know you by another name

Now, two as one we’ve met the sun
Blessing all that we’ve begun
Guess you’re not the only one
Who didn’t have a lot to lose
Just colored stones and sad, sad songs
And pictures from a love gone wrong
Sunken walls that once belonged to you

Everybody calls you rain
And they don’t see a break in your weather
Everybody sees the rain
In your gray eyes that goes on forever
But the sky’s so sunny and bright
As I’m lying here holding you tight
Everybody calls you rain
But I know you by another name
