Somebody’s Birthday

by Lindsey Eck

It must be somebody’s birthday
Boxes tied with ribbons and bows
Underneath the candelabra
Giving off a scandalous glow

It must be somebody’s birthday
Look at all the fancy hors d’œuvres
They’re tipping that guy who’s playing guitar
More than he really deserves

It must be somebody’s birthday
Goblets of delectable wine
It must be somebody’s birthday
Tomorrow it’s gonna be mine

It must be somebody’s birthday
They’re bringing out the colorful cake
With candles and chocolate ice cream
To follow up the lobster and steak

It must be somebody’s birthday
Red, green, and yellow balloons
Couples on their way to the dance floor
To move to their favorite tunes

It must be somebody’s birthday
Luxuries of every kind
It must be somebody’s birthday
Tomorrow it’s gonna be mine

Another day, another year
Brings so much more than a souvenir
A crescent moon, a rising sun
A light that brightens everyone

It must be somebody’s birthday
The video tribute begins
Hugs from everyone in the family
Laughter with the fondest of friends

It must be somebody’s birthday
Luxuries of every kind

It must be somebody’s birthday
Tomorrow it’s gonna be mine
